Scientific Peer Review and Advice

The Delta Science Program is a leading coordinator of independent scientific peer review. The peer review process uses independent scientific experts and established guidelines to ensure credible and legitimate science can be used by water and environmental decision-makers. The Delta Independent Science Board also conducts science reviews that span the natural, physical, and social sciences.

Reviews

Since 2010, the Delta Science Program has coordinated over 28 independent science reviews and science advisors. Reviews employ independent experts to evaluate completed processes, programs, plans, and products. Advisors typically give input on the development of processes, programs, plans, or products. Both reviews and advisors respond to a set of questions (a “Charge”) and write a report. Serial review types include LOBO (Long-term Operations of the Biological Opinions), Delta RMP (Delta Regional Monitoring Program), and WaterFix Aquatic Science.

Coequal goals

The Delta Stewardship Council was created in legislation to achieve the state mandated coequal goals for the Delta. "'Coequal goals' means the two goals of providing a more reliable water supply for California and protecting, restoring, and enhancing the Delta ecosystem. The coequal goals shall be achieved in a manner that protects and enhances the unique cultural, recreational, natural resource, and agricultural values of the Delta as an evolving place." (CA Water Code §85054)
